Kanwar Lake
Asia's largest freshwater oxbow lake and an important bird sanctuary
Begusarai District, Bihar • 125 km from Patna
Kanwar Lake (Kabar Taal) spans nearly 67 km², making it the biggest freshwater oxbow lake in Asia. It is recognised as a RAMSAR wetland of international importance and hosts more than 60 species of migratory birds every winter.
The lake is surrounded by verdant wetlands and fishing villages, offering superb opportunities for bird watching, photography and eco-tourism. During winter months, the lake becomes a temporary home to thousands of migratory birds from Siberia and Central Asia.
